Special needs: Fearful

Astro is only 18 months old and has led a very troubled past so far. Astro spent over 6 months in a shelter in the valley where he never smelled or touched the grass. He lived in a concrete cell and was never walked or permitted outside. Astro landed in the shelter after his abusive owners no longer wanted him. Astro was a victim of abuse while he was tethered in his yard primarily by kids/young men.

Sadly, Astro is insecure when around people he does not know or trust. He displays his fear through barking but does listen when told to stop.

We are looking for a home for Astro who have a great deal of experience with large dogs. Astro's temperament is closer to a Rottweiler than Lab as he does have a protective nature and needs to learn YOU are taking care of HIM.

Astro is currently in foster care in Maple Ridge with Justin Wilcox  of J & F Canine Services. Astro's adoption will come with a training package from J & F Canine Services.

Archie's story...

Archie recently landed in one of our local shelters after a family found him as a stray. Several months later in the shelter Archie showed signs of stress and was unpredictable in several situations. The shelter decided that it was best he be placed in foster care through a local rescue who work with foster home-care and dogs who are fearful under stress.

We met Archie today (June 1st, 2010) and have agreed to help him by taking him into our care program. Archie will be placed with one of our experienced foster homes so we can learn more about him. He does show signs of resource guarding which is a very fixable problem but that being said, he will not go to a home with children under the age of 16 years old.

We will be posting more information about Archie once we have had time to evaluate and assess him in a home environment.

UPDATE: Archie is doing so well in his foster home. He loves the other dogs he is living with and plays well with them. He is now starting to trust and is making the right decisions. Archie was resourse guarding but has since learned this is not an option. For more information please email us at crossourpaws@yahoo.ca

Archie will NOT be placed in a home with kids under 13 years of age.

 My Name is ZOEY...

~~~ ADOPTION PENDING! ~~~
I am about 2 years old and was dumped at a vet clinic after my last owner got me free off Craigslist. I guess I was not what she expected. I really am a GREAT dog and have a love for life. I am extremely playful with other dogs, I love people but I do not like my ears touched much (I just pull away). Because I am a hound I have certain needs which includes keeping my ears clean and training me to recall off leash will be a challenge as I am very scent driven which is a breed characteristic.
Visit me on the Adoptable Pet List here.
This is GUNTER...
~~~ ADOPTION PENDING! ~~~

Gunter is a very sweet, 2 to 3 yr old Purebred German Shorthaired Pointer who is in need of a breed savvy home. As you can see Gunter only has 3 legs but that has not slowed him down in the least. Gunter is great with other dogs and cats and loves everyone he meets. Our vets believe Gunter lost his leg due to an accident as he is very healthy otherwise.

An adult home is preferred. Email us at crossourpaws@yahoo.ca for details.
